Trader Joe’s Reduced Carb Tortilla
No matter what type of "diet" (excuse me, lifestyle) you follow, be it Weight Watchers, low carb, low calorie, or whatever blows your dress up, a tortilla will set you back, in all arenas. How something so flat can contain so many calories, carbs and points, is beyond me. I know it's a better alternative to a giant kaiser roll (but come on, a kaiser roll is SO good, ahem. I'm getting ahead of myself), or something else like that.
I started Weight Watcher's three months or so ago. This is the second time I've done it, and because I was so determined, I've had much better results. However, now that I'm closer to goal, I got hit with a loss of a WHOPPING three points, which if you're a WW groupie, you know how much it stings. I was going along, in my little groove, and then realized, I had to recalculate just about everything in order to make sure I wasn't going over my daily allotted points.
I happened to hit up Trader Joe's one day, which isn't a normal stop of mine, and I came across their whole wheat, reduced carb tortillas. I tend to be leary of low carb anything, because it tastes like sand and dust, in my opinion, but I decided to give it a shot, and here's why. According to the WW calculator, it's ZERO points. A zero point tortilla? I'll bite.
And lo, it was delicious!! They're soft and chewy, with a great taste. I can eat one as a snack, with a cheese wedge or make myself a nice little wrap and not have to sacrafice any points, and still feel satisfied. They are a little on the small side, but this doesn't bother me, because my favorite? Is the two point egg burrito:
2 point egg burrito:
- 1/2 c. egg whites (I use Organic Valley, for convenience, but you can separate your own, of course)
- 1 Trader Joe's reduced carb tortilla
- 1 Laughing Cow garlic herb cheese wedge (or low fat processed cheese slice, depending on how I'm feeling)
- 1/2 c. tomatoes, diced
- Any other vegetable or seasoning you fancy, so long as you can squeeze it in.
There you have it. Stuff your face and enjoy!

They Said Stuff!
Yum! I’m totally getting some whn I go to TJ’s this week!
zero points? man I wish we had a TJ’s around here.
Holy balls! I love me some tortillas… I’m always talk about wrap this and wrap that, but they’re never really that much healthier. Trader Joe’s, you and me have a date tonight, buddy.
You sold me, I’m definitely checking them out!
I’m so envious of y’alls proximity to TJ’s that I think my jealousy may actually be burning calories as I type this.
Hey, where in TJ’s do you find these? In the bread area or in the deli case? I’m going tonight and I want to get some. :)
In the bread area, (at least that’s where they are in mine). I tried to find a picture of the package, but I couldn’t. I need to take a picture of it. :)
Dude, I was SO bummed yesterday when TJ’s didn’t have these. LOL! I checked the Points on every whole wheat tortilla they had in the joint and none of them were zero points. Then I remembered they were “reduced carb” so I looked for those to no avail.
I put in a note with the manager to hook us up! :)
For those of you who dont have a Trader Joe’s there is another brand of low carb whole wheat tortilla’s out there from a company called La Tortilla Factory. The fajita size/small size ones are 1 for 0 points, 2 are 1.5 points. The larger ones are 1 point each. Stater Brother’s (a grocery store chain in California) has the small ones. Costco carries the big ones. They are very very yummy!!!!!!!
Here are the stats for one of the small ones: Calories 50, Fat 2g, (no trans or sat fat) Fiber 7g, They also have 5g of protein in each one.
Oh yay! I wonder if I can find these on the east coast.
Muffins are very versatile, you can change the flavor to what ever you want. They are also easy to carry, and the perfect size for a morning meal.
